Have you ever found yourself stuck in quicksand? No, me neither. Not literal quicksand but I sure have encountered my fair share of mental and emotional quicksand.
When you find yourself in quicksand, your natural instinct is to struggle and you end up sinking further and further down until you've eventually sunk beneath the surface. If you struggle, you slip faster. You can't get out on your own.
Trying to work out our own problems is like sinking in quicksand. If we struggle to pull ourselves up and out, we often find ourselves sinking even faster. If we resolve that we're in the quicksand and decide not to struggle then we stay where we are. We're up to our neck in troubles and if we move at all we will fall farther but if we sit where we are we aren't surviving, we're just stuck. The troubles of our lives become quicksand surrounding us, and we sit there with our head barely poking above, trying not to sink any deeper.
It isn't until we find a way to get out that we can truly be rescued from the quicksand. Someone extends a branch that we can grab hold of and they help lift us out. It isn't until we surrender our lives, our hearts, and our troubles to Jesus that we truly can be rescued. Jesus reaches out the branch for us and we're able to free ourselves.
We have to see that struggling to fight our troubles by ourselves only causes us to sink further but depending on the strength of God will save you. He will lift you up.
